What Are Your Roots Telling You?

rootJP

When you go to a salon, you expect to leave happy with the results you want. Typically when a woman seeks a solution for her hair loss, she wants to find a way to enhance what she sees and how she views herself. However, I want to be sure to focus on the root of the problem and what people don’t necessarily see.

Plants, trees, perhaps vegetables in your garden – all of these things have something in common: roots. Roots are their source for receiving nutrients, which in return help that living thing grow and remain thriving.

Similar to things that grow, hair has a root (otherwise known as a follicle), and if it’s not receiving the correct nutrients, it will cause hair to grow in thinner or quite possibly fall out. It’s essential to provide our bodies with fresh, natural foods and to maintain a healthy diet so that hair can continue to be strong, healthy and grow.

When deciding what nutrients are important to obtain on a regular basis, you should be sure of a few things:

1. Be sure to include foods or supplements contain essential fatty acids as well as antioxidants. By eating natural elements, you are encouraging your body to absorb crucial vitamins and minerals.

2. Are you getting the right combination of vitamins? For instance, Vitamins A, B and C as well as Omegas 3 and 6 help hair grow and stay in good health.

Story of Maxie – A Mother Finding A Solution

When you become a mother, many things in your life change. Your protective instincts kick in, you become an expert in time management, your sleep pattern changes, and so much more. It’s inevitable.

What about hair loss? Once you have children, hair just doesn’t grow back the same. Jeffrey Paul Salon’s Office Coordinator, Maxie, experienced this first hand after giving birth to her three children. Prior to having kids, she never imagined that hair loss would be a problem for her.

She began to notice the changes in her hair’s texture, color and weight. She would find clumps of hair after taking a shower. These changes weren’t caused from age but as a result from having children. Like others, she initially attributed this hair loss to aging and shrugged it off as one of life’s natural occurrences.

Thankfully, Maxie was able to gain insight into her hair loss because of her career. Working at Jeffrey Paul Salon, allowed Maxie to discover the real reason behind her hair loss and the best possible hair replacement solution.

Through a consultation, contour analysis, and determining which attachment method best suited Maxie, she was able to choose a hair replacement system in which she could go about her everyday life without being self-conscious about her hair loss, how it would affect her and what others would think.

Now, thanks to finding the right hair loss solution, Maxie is able to focus on the most important job…being a mother.

Ask Jeffrey: Wet Brush

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SsOv5kxDOs

“Why should I ditch my regular comb or brush for a Wet Brush? Does it really make a difference?” – Alicia

This is a great question! Tangles are a women’s worst enemy when it comes to hair. Many of the women I talk to ask why they can’t get the tangles out of their hair or better yet how to get tangles out of their hair or hair system. One of the biggest culprits for not getting tangles out of hair is using the wrong types of brushes. Not only  will the wrong brush not get the tangles out, it could also create further damage by causing hair breakage. For a women who has thin hair or hair loss, any additional breakage to hair could be devastating. So the right brush makes all the difference.

BRUSHThe Wet Brush is my go-to detangling tool of choice. At first glance, The Wet Brush looks like an ordinary hair brush, but with just one use, you will notice a complete difference. It can be used on wet or dry hair. It quickly and painlessly detangles even the thickest, most stubborn hair. The Wet Brush’s Inteli-Flex bristle is designed to be ultra-thin and flexible, yet still have rapid recovery memory to instantly bounce back to its original form. In addition, the ball tip bristles provide a massaging action that stimulates circulation at the follicle and is a proven benefit for hair health.

So not only are you getting the tangles out, but you are also getting a scalp massage at the same time – and everyone I know loves a great scalp massage!

I tell my guests that it is most important to be using this type of brush on wet hair as hair can be very vulnerable when wet. Additionally, before going to bed each evening and/or once or twice throughout the day brushing through your hair, with the right brush, and a detangling spray will keep your hair looking good and feeling great!

How To Properly Clean Your Hair Replacement System

washinghair

It’s important to remember that a Hair System is an investment. By taking proper care of it, you will keep it looking natural and make it last longer. In order to do so, I highly recommend following a well-prescribed maintenance routine and one crucial part of that includes proper cleansing of your system.

Before I discuss the appropriate steps in that process, I want to bust a myth right now: washing a wig or hair replacement system less does not make it last longer.  In fact, cleaning and conditioning with the correct products and procedure will increase the life span since it lifts the oils and grime that cause hair loss and make for an unnatural look.

If you wear your hair system attached in extended wear fashion (removed by professional every 4-6 weeks) it is best to follow these video steps here.

If your hair system is worn daily (taken on and off each day), I suggest following twelve simple steps:

Creating Better Posture – Hip Hinges

Correct posture is essential for the proper movement of our bodies everyday. I feel that springtime is a good time to improve our overall health and well-being.

One area of our bodies that tends to get neglected is the hips and they’re important to focus on in order to improve our posture, decrease pain and maintain flexibility. In today’s video my friend and our strength and conditioning expert, Mark Roozen, demonstrates exercises that will develop an improved posture.

Using a stick for support, you’ll bend forward bending at the hips. It’s key to keep the stick in contact with your lower body, which is the part of the body we want to stretch and utilize. This movement will engage the lower back, part of the body that gets ignored when we’ve been hunched at our computers or looking down at our phones or other devices.

Linsey’s Full Makeover

“I didn’t recognize myself at first…I was so excited I jumped for joy! I can’t wait to go out and be myself.” – Linsey

Linsey was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease, an autoimmune disorder leading to hyperthyroidism, back in 1996. As we spent time with Linsey we found that her hair loss was caused by a combination of Graves’ Disease, Hashimoto’s Disease and the medications associated with them. For these types of diseases that cause damage emotionally, and physically it’s so important to build awareness so that women who may be suffering can seek and find help.

Screen Shot 2014-03-27 at 2.24.53 PMConsultation:

We prepared Linsey for her hair system by having a personalized discussion with her about her hair loss and determining which solution would be best for her specifically.

Linsey’s Story – Attachment Methods

For those of you following our Hair Loss Makeover Winner, Linsey, and her journey, you know she has gone through a private consultation to determine the best solution for her hair loss.

In order to further determine the best custom designed solution for Linsey, or anyone who comes in to Jeffrey Paul Salon, we must determine Linsey’s lifestyle, in order to determine which attachment method would be best suited for her needs.

In the video above I will take you through and explanation, as well as some facts, about the two types of attachment methods. These two attachment methods are:

Become Your Own Woman in History

You are a woman who deserves to be recognized and that is exactly what I plan to do in the month of March. I want to inspire you through powerful quotes, beauty tips, and Linsey, our ‘A New You’ makeover contest winner’s hair restoration process. Can You Hear Me Now?

Communications is the key to a healthy self, life, career, organization and family – as well as every relationship you encounter. Not only have I made it my personal goal, but I have also set the goal for Jeffrey Paul Salon, as a whole, to make it our highest priority and focus for 2014 to become even more “healthy. I would like to introduce you to  Carolyn Santos, a nationally known communication coach, who is going to not only be a coach to me and my team but also may be a great coach for you as well!

jpuse

I started noticing my hair getting thinner in the past 8 years.  First, it started as just a few hair strands a days, then, more hair began to appear in the shower drain, until one day I realized: “I have a real problem here!” My biggest questions were, “WHY is this happening to me?”, and “WHAT can I do about it?”  That’s the way communication issues start.  It is one little thing here, one misunderstanding there.  One offense caused because someone simply does not understand when they do or say “THAT”, it hurts or offends me.  Or, if you are like me, you have conflicting thoughts or ‘voices’ inside that make you feel that you must need to see a professional!  Well, yes, we do!  But, not that kind of professional! We need a Communication Coach.  Someone who can share very simple information that once you know it, it changes everything and starts preventing LOSS in relationships!

So what’s the solution?

How to Tackle Your Hair Loss: Part 2

bigstock-Content-cute-blonde-drinking-a-52035331In my last blog I talked about how you can start to tackle your hair loss this year as a personal resolution for yourself. If you have begun to collect the hairs that fall out each day, then I want to discuss the next steps.

We want to evaluate various factors or your lifestyle at different times to see how problems might be progressing. You should note that hair loss is related to what happened yesterday – not today. We will likely have forgotten what might have caused it, because the loss becomes noticeable only after the events that triggered it. I encourage my clients to keep a diary or a journal of their hair loss over a ninety-day period – which represents the cycle of hair. I encourage you to do the same before you begin addressing your hair loss concerns constructively, and continue to alter.

For the same reasons, we take a two-to five-year personal history on a client in our initial consultation and create a timeline showing the correlation of events in their lives with noticed amounts of loss. When our clients see these timelines, they often say, “I didn’t realize that all of this was happening at the same time.” The main reason to do that initial assessment is to win the first half of the battle – understanding what has actually happened that brought about some of these issues.

After evaluating every aspect of your life, your hair restoration specialist should have a better idea of why you are experiencing hair loss, what steps you can take to prevent further hair loss, and what solution is a best fit for you.

How to Tackle Your Hair Loss: Part 1

2014 is the year, the year to tackle your hair loss and find out how you can find a solution.

Treating your hair loss starts at home. The products you use at home will change. The way you take care of your hair and even the manner in which you do many standard things in your life will change to accommodate the needs of your hair. I want you to begin to chart your course of treatment and monitor your needs in order to have the most effective outcome.

About a week before clients come in to see us at the Jeffrey Paul Salon, we have them gather and count the hair that falls out during that week. When they come in, we conduct an analysis using a microscopic video monitoring of their scalp, the follicles, the openings where hair emerges from the scalp, and other factors, in order to measure and put a value on the stage of your loss so that you can understand the steps you will need to take to alter the situation. If you collect hair you’ve lost and put it in a clear plastic baggie, daily, for a week, you can see at a glance whether you are losing more or less hair as time goes on.
