May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and while many conversations around mental health focus on stress, anxiety, grief, or major life changes, there is another topic that deserves more attention: hair loss.Even a recent pop culture moment showed how quickly hair loss can become part of the conversation. When people reacted to Woody’s visible hair loss in the new Toy Story trailer, much of the response was lighthearted. But it also pointed to something real: hair loss is still often treated as a joke, an aging issue, or something people are expected to quietly accept. For many men and women, hair loss is not “just hair.”It can affect how you see yourself in the mirror. It can change how comfortable you feel in photos, at work, at church, at family events, or even when walking into a room. It can make simple routines feel heavier — getting ready in the morning, styling your hair, washing your hair, or noticing more shedding than usual. And because hair loss can feel so personal, many people carry the emotional weight quietly.
If you’ve recently noticed more hair in your brush, shower drain, or on your pillow, you’re not alone. Many people go through periods where their hair seems to shed more than usual, and it can quickly become concerning.
The reality is that some hair shedding is completely normal. However, when the amount of shedding suddenly increases or continues longer than expected, it may be a sign that something is affecting the natural hair growth cycle.
If shedding continues or you begin to notice thinning areas, exploring hair loss solutions in Cleveland may help you better understand what options are available.
Understanding the most common causes of hair shedding can help you determine whether what you’re experiencing is temporary—or whether it may be time to take a closer look at your scalp health.

If you’ve ever felt like pulling your hair out, you are not alone. While this is a common figurative phrase, pulling your hair in a literal sense is very real, and it’s a common disorder that many people may not even realize exists.
What is Trichotillomania?
Trichotillomania, a neurobiological and behavior disorder known as “Hair Pulling Disorder,” is the repetitive pulling out of one’s hair. According to the TLC Foundation, “Trichotillomania is one of a group of behaviors known as Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), self-grooming behaviors in which individuals pull, pick, scrape, or bite their hair, skin, or nails, resulting in damage to the body.” Trichotillomania affects about 1 in 25 people, and the best way to manage this disorder is to educate yourself. While many who experience these urges feel shame and embarrassment, it is essential to spread the message that they are not alone, and there is help out there.
In the video above, Clinical Psychologist Dr. Renae Reinardy discusses this common disorder, the variations of severity and the options for people suffering from this problem that are available.
If you or someone you know has hair loss due to the pulling urges, contact us at Jeffrey Paul’s Hair and Scalp Specialists. We can help assess the problem and provide guidance as to your next steps.

Fortunately, I’m here to help. Watch my video above and follow these beauty tips to protect your hair before settling in for your beauty sleep:
Sleep with asatin pillowcase. Whether you realize it or not, you move throughout the night and using a satin pillowcase prevents friction.
Have you ever wondered if it’s really necessary to wash your hair every day? This is a very common and great beauty question. And the answer might just surprise you!
In reality, you should shampoo your every other day, or less often if possible. Unless you are highly active and perspiring each day, your hair should be able to go a couple days without being shampooed. Your hair actually isn’t made to be cleaned daily. So, how do you know what’s best for you? Test it out.
When you wake up in the morning, spray my Beautiful Hair Spray Conditioner on your hair, brush through and examine how your hair looks. If your roots are a little oily, use dry shampoo to soak up some of the oil.

When you wake up, you may not realize it, but your hair is tangled from hours of tossing and turning on your pillow. Your hair needs a wake-up call to help get the “bed head” and the tangles out. One of the most important things you can do before stepping into the shower is to precondition your hair. By doing this preconditioning step you will help start the day for your hair with a great foundation. In this video, I walk you through the process step by step, but it’s really quite simple. Make sure to do the following:
Section Hair
Mix Conditioner and water into a water bottle and spritz onto hair
Did you know that not all hair is equal? As professionals, it is our job to educate you on what options are available for the best fit for you and your lifestyle. Today I want to discuss the three different types of hair my Team uses: Premium vs. Premium Plus vs. Virgin.
Our goal is to help our Guests have healthy, beautiful hair once again. But as you read above, not all hair is equal. Education is key to the success and longevity of any hair system! Having an understanding of the types of hair can help you when discussing your options with your hair professional.
Isaac Bracha, owner and president of the Hair and Compounds in Los Angeles, California, and a featured hair broker and expert in my book operates a research and development laboratory for replacement hair. He states, “…Replacement hair will best mimic its wearer’s hair if it is extremely close in diameter. Diameter affects the weight of the hair, the way it falls, and other important factors that will become obvious if there is a large discrepancy.” A hair restoration specialist can help determine the best solution for you.
