Hair Makes A Difference

Hair makes a difference in every child’s life…

But when hair is lost, it is even more critical to the children who have lost it. For over 40 years, Wigs for Kids has been helping children who have lost their hair by providing a no-cost hair replacement to them. Along with this hair replacement, Wigs for Kids provides a complete product package with the products the family needs to maintain the hair.

These product packages are crucial in the care of the no-cost wig Wigs for Kids provides. Without the proper product and care the wig will not last as long, look as natural or style the way each child wants it to. Each product package includes five wet products: shampoo, conditioners & proteins; a roll of tape, a brush, a styrofoam head, a brisk refresher, a chin strap, a microfiber towel, and a maintenance guide. This complete product package, along with the shipping, costs $200. In December, our team set a goal to provide 20 product packages for children in need. We need your help!

Our company has decided to match 100% of any donation to Wigs for Kids up to $2,000*. These donations must be made through our center or online store. So whether you would like to financially donate a roll of tape or a complete package, know that your donations will be doubled and brings us one step closer to helping another child take care of their hair!

Donate $5 = Roll of Tape

Donate $20 = Bottle of Shampoo & Conditioner

Donate - $50 = Hair Maintenance Tools

Donate $200 = Complete Product Package

*The Hair & Scalp Specialists will match 100% of any donation made during December 2023 up to $2,000. Donations must be made through the online store or in person at The Hair & Scalp Specialists Center. Unless checks are made directly to Wigs for Kids, contributions are non-tax-deductible.

What Happens When You Donate Your Hair?

Wigs For Kids is my non profit  organization that has been building self-esteem in children for over 35 years by providing handmade hairpieces at no cost to the children’s families. They rely on the hair donations and financial support of people like you. Recently Wigs For Kids had the unique opportunity to have BuzzFeed do a video on one of the most commonly asked questions by individuals who donate their hairs, ” What happens when I donate my hair?” The video above follows the hair donation process from donation cut through the Wigs For Kids Process, all the way to the delivery to a child in need.

Get Involved and Join the Cause

Going through life having to deal with hair loss can be a constant struggle, a struggle that as adults can be emotionally and physically taxing.  As taxing as it may be for adults imagine experiencing that struggle from a child’s perspective, can you imagine how daunting that would be?

My non-profit organization, Wigs For Kids, has had the opportunity to love, support and assist children who are experiencing medical related hair loss. With this opportunity, we have been blessed with an outstanding network of individuals who give their time, support, funds and services to help children look and feel themselves.

Yet in order to provide wigs to as many children in need as possible, Wigs For Kids needs to rely on generous volunteers, donations, and fundraisers. How can you help make these wishes come true? Here are three ways you can help out:

1. Donate:

It takes 20-30 ponytails to create one wig for a child. By growing and donating your hair to Wigs for Kids you can become a part of changing that child’s life.

2. Host a fundraiser:

Host a Ladies Night of Pampering with your friends!  Provide the food and drinks and even a silent auction and have donating’s go to Wigs For Kids.

3. Use Aquage/Wigs for Kids Products!

We have been lucky enough to partner with Aquage care and stylist products to create a Wigs for Kids gift pack. Support Wigs for Kids while looking beautiful with these fantastic products.

By getting involved, you’re helping to increase the help and support we can give to these kids at no cost to them. It is with your generosity that we are able to put a smile on these kids’ faces!

If you would like to learn more about Wigs For Kids and how you and your salon can get involved, please find information on their website here, or email or call me.

Wigs For Kids Holiday Giving

Julia

The moment a child begins losing their hair can be a life changing experience. That experience touched my heart years ago when I began Wigs for Kids, and continues to touch my heart and the lives of others every single day. Working with children who have lost their hair has taught me that every child deserves to look, and feel normal.

And now I’d like to introduce you to Julia, who has shared her story so that you may havw that same experience. Julia is a 3-year-old Wigs For Kids recipient, who was diagnosed with Alopecia  Totalis, a form of hair loss resulting in the loss of all hair on her head. A smart and bubbly girl, Julia has not allowed her hair loss to get in her way. She is certainly a spirited gift from above. Receiving a hairpiece has provided a feeling of normalcy and acceptance among her peers. Julia’s hairpiece will allow her to continue to swim and go horseback riding without a fear of her hairpiece falling off.

A Day at the Zoo Recap

What a weekend! It was a whirlwind of excitement, ponytails, rain, sweat, cows (!) and a whole lot of fun! We’d like to send a special thank you to everyone who came out for our annual fundraiser at the Cleveland Zoo to support the Wigs for Kids mission!

The day started out rather dreary with some rain showers, but with your help we had a fabulous day regardless! (It turns out some runners prefer to run in the rain…who knew!) Over 1,000 participants came out to run/walk the 5k to the finish line where we had the Chick-fil-A cows, and an entire league of superheroes waiting! With your help we raised approximately $77,000 dollars to help provide wigs for 20, 2013 recipients!

We’ll have more pictures to post on Facebook and Pinterest, but for now check out this fabulous video created by one of our biggest fans!

We would like to send a very special thank you to each and every one of you that participated or donated, as well as this year’s sponsors:

Last Min Sign Ups are Just As Important!

1 day to go!
1 day to go!

Do you remember Emma? Children like Emma and Kiken (read his story below) are able to hop, skip, jump and play around the playground just like normal children their age despite suffering from illnesses that leave them with little to no hair on their heads. How? Because of your generous donations of your own hair, your time, or your finances.

Last weekend the community of Cleveland came together for a cut-a-thon at the Cleveland convention center to cut their hair for this year’s Wigs for Kids recipients, but tomorrow you have the opportunity to help even if your hair isn’t 12 inches long! Sign up to Walk/Run at the Wigs for Kids Day at the Zoo event where we will be celebrating these fantastic children by raising money to help more children look and feel themselves.  The event and sign up information is below, don’t miss out on a chance to put a smile on a child’s face!

For 8-year-old Kiken, receiving a hairpiece will change his life. Because he suffers from alopecia, the kids at school are bullying him. With the funding for a hairpiece he will fit in among his peers and be a ‘normal’ kid!

How Walking Can Change Lives

Wigs for Kids Cleveland Zoo Walk RecipientWho knew that walking a 5k could mean a hairpiece for a child? And at age 5, what exactly does a hairpiece mean to a child?

The answer, at least for Emma Hutchinson, is to fit in.

Emma is one of Wigs For Kids’, the non-profit organization that I founded with my wife, recipients this year. Emma is a Ballerina Princess and when she steps onto a stage, this little girl shines on the stage like no other.

Emma has been suffering from a disease called Alopecia, and even so, her bright eyes and heart of a child have allowed her to have fun and enjoy life with her dancing, swimming and playing baseball. But because of her hair replacement system from Wigs for Kids Emma will be able to experience that time that every little girl goes through a time where she learns how to put her hair in a simple ponytail or even something more intricate like a French braid.

With the help of the Cleveland community at last year’s Wigs for Kids Zoo walk, and donations from all over the world, we are so very happy to be able to provide Emma with the hairpiece that allows her to feel beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. We can’t help but be inspired by Emma’s love of life and her ability to find joy even during a trying time. Thank you Emma sharing your story with us.

If you are inspired by Emma’s story please go to the Wigs for Kids website,  we are hosting the 8th annual Wigs for Kids Zoo Walk on July 27th! Sign up to walk/run a 5k, donate your hair during our cut-a-thon, or create a team and help raise funds so that we can help more children like the beautiful Emma!

Watch Wigs for Kids on LIVE with Kelly and Michael

What an amazing week! We love all of the support coming to Wigs For Kids after the fabulous ‘cut’ that was made on LIVE with Kelly and Michael on Friday!

Jason Miller, donated his 27-inch-long “virgin” hair that had never been dyed, permed or chemically changed. Kelly and Michael actually found Jason on Craigslist and asked him to come on the show to donate his hair to us at Wigs for Kids! They gave him a full make-over and sent us his very long, gorgeous pony-tail! Watch the video here, or find the before and after photos on our Facebook page!

We are so blessed to have this amazing opportunity to build awareness for children suffering from hair loss. Thank you to Jason Miller who donated his hair and Kelly and Michael for the great show!
