Cindy Found a Solution for Hereditary Hair Loss

JP_CindyBeforeAfter_8_14_13

“I finally feel good about myself and how I look. That makes me happy. I want to share that.”  -Cindy

As a former hospital employee, Cindy was always in the public eye, and like most of us, her hair had always been a big part of her appearance. As Cindy began to lose her hair, she was able to determine that her hair loss was not only hereditary, but was also being caused by a medication she was required to take after surgery. Cindy told me that her hair loss started slowly, but as any of us who have experienced loss know, a little is enough to throw us into that private panic, and search for a solution. Cindy came to me at my salon, and we were able to walk her through her thinning and loss, and find a solution that met her needs and made her feel good!

When Cindy first came into my salon for a personal consultation we reviewed her background and determined her hair type, face shape, skin tone, level of activity, preferences and health treatment status. These are all important factors to determine which is the best solution for her.  Then we moved on to the evaluation and assessment of what solutions may be best for her.

Judy Found a Solution for Female Pattern Hair Loss

Judy2 “I feel great! I feel energetic, younger, lively and I feel like I have a new lease on life! I feel like myself again.” – Judy

At the young age of 53, Judy had already experienced hair loss twice. First when she was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and had to endure radiation and chemotherapy. That time, she was lucky enough to have her hair grew back. Then Judy had to go through radiation and lost her hair again. Unfortunately, this time it never fully came back, and as someone working in the public eye, she was concerned that people could see her scalp.

Judy came to my salon to see what could be done about her hair loss.  Our first step was an extensive consultation that included options for hair and color, a patch test for skin sensitivity and options for personal styling.

Kristin Found a Solution for Chemotherapy Related Hair Loss

“Losing my breast was not really the issue. My hair was – as a woman it’s a big part of how people view you… Jeffrey Paul, and his team, gave me back the feeling of beauty both on the inside and with my hair!” – Kristin.

Kristin  is a stage one breast cancer survivor. As a result of her chemotherapy, she knew she would lose her hair. That was both scary and confusing. She had always been known as someone with a full head of thick, blonde, beautiful hair. Even though she knew her hair didn’t define who she was, she was still very overwhelmed.

At our center, the first step for Kristin was to meet with one of my consultants who evaluated her situation and her coming loss. For Kristin, we recommended a full cranial prosthesis. Kristin learned everything about a new hair system—how measurements were taken, the cap fitting, the breath-ability of the piece, the differences between human hair and synthetic, how it would be secured, and more.

Vicki Found the Solution for Early Stage Hair Loss

Vicki Solution to Hair Loss

“My experience with this whole process has been amazing! I can’t tell you how much my self esteem is up and how happy this has made me. It just means so much!” –Vicki

Vicki, a very good friend of mine, was at a crossroads. The 55 year old dental assistant had tried finding solutions to her hair thinning and loss – including wigs. But nothing seemed to give her the natural look she wanted. She made a choice to get a professional assessment of her hair thinning and loss and to find solutions that would work for her.

Consultation:

At my Salon, the first step, for Vicki, was to meet with one of my  consultants who evaluated her hair as well as her thinning and loss. We use two categories when defining the level of hair loss. First is diffusion, which indicates the percentage of thinning. Next is the pattern, which includes the extent of the thinning area.

Creating A Royal Diversion

When you are experiencing hair thinning or loss, one of your best tools can be your very own hair! Stylists all over the world are using specific styling and cutting techniques to hide (or accentuate!) all sorts of features. This skill set is so very important when you are looking for help with hair thinning or loss. This skill is the ability to determine what the perfect style is based on your facial structure. Let’s take a look at an example:

Screen Shot 2013-07-12 at 11.50.16 AM When your face is square…

How do you know if your face is square? Take a look at your jaw line and forehead. If you have a ‘square brow’ and your jaw line and your brow are the same width chances are that you have ‘square’ facial features.

Now that we know you have ‘square’ features we can begin to determine how to make your hair look full and thick without any replacement pieces! One of the best ways to create the allusion of a full head of hair for women with a square face is to use volume and structure, much like the picture of Michelle to the right. In order to give Michelle the allusion of thick hair we would want to soften her sharp jaw angle and minimize the shape of her brow. To do this we would frame her face with a soft fringe to make it look more oval, and cut the bulk of her hair to less than 4 inches with layers to add ‘fluff’ to give the illusion of volume. With a few peek-a-boo bangs and layering around the next Michelle’s look is softer, fun and gives her great lift to minimize the insecurity of her hair thinning!

It’s amazing what the right hairstyle and cut can do for your face, or the volume of your hair. And it’s not the same for each face! It’s so important to talk with your hairdresser about the shape of your face and what will work best for you!

Cathy’s Solution for Thinning Hair!

Screen Shot 2013-07-17 at 4.40.15 PM There are many different ‘hair loss solutions’ out there on the market today that promise a ‘miracle solution’ that will stop all hair loss. At Jeffrey Paul Salon we know that hair loss is very specific to the individual, their diagnosis, their habits and their lifestyle. Sometimes the solution is not a pill or an extremely invasive procedure but rather taking a strong hard look at your lifestyle.

For example, meet my friend Cathy. Cathy began to notice that her hair was extremely dry and was starting to fall out. At the time her salon told her it was a side affect of the products that she was using, however Cathy was eventually diagnosed with Alopecia. Cathy, like most of us in her situation, began the search for the solution that would solve her problem.

After many different quests, including a trip to a dermatologist for scalp injections, Cathy came in for a consultation at Jeffery Paul Salon. We were able to advise her on her hair loss and we suggested that she begin by changing her lifestyle – to make sure that she was taking in the right vitamins and consuming the right foods and beverages to maximize the nutritional benefits for growth and reviving her hair. Along with this we recommended some conditioning products and laser light therapy – to help stimulate blood flow in the scalp and strengthen the hair follicle and hair shaft.

For Cathy, focusing on nutrition and supplements combined with conditioning hair products and light therapy sessions have allowed her hair to become shiny and healthy once again and have helped to lessen the hair loss she was experiencing.

If you would like to learn more about the right solutions for your individual hair loss please email us to set up a private and personal consultation with one of our specialists.

Cover Me! I’m Going Thin…

Untitled
Applying makeup to conceal early hair thinning and loss –      10-20% Thinning

It’s the opening credits for Pretty Woman, and we see Viv putting on her leather boots as she gets ready. But they are not perfect, so she takes out a black magic marker and colors in the worn spots so they won’t be noticeable. It works – we don’t notice them, and people could relate because many of them had been using that technique on their shoes for years before the movie came out.

As light power and liquid covers dark or red spots on skin, dark and light powders and liquids can conceal thinning areas on scalps. If the right products are used, we can look nearly perfect and no one will notice hair thinning and loss issues.

What’s the Big Deal? It’s Only Hair, right?

Hair Loss

Hair loss can be devastating, in fact, one-in-four women will experience some form of hair thinning or hair loss during their lifetime. Whether it’s a result of genetics, health issues, medication, stress or other factors, the impact of hair loss is significant to a sense of self.

Why? Because hair is attached to more than the follicles in the scalp. It is attached to emotions, personality, confidence and the way you feel about yourself and how you interact with the world. It is the “crowning glory” to that individual look you call your own.

If you are experiencing the early stages of age-related hair thinning and loss, there are several options you can consider that will help divert attention away from the issue.
