Do you Have a Heart-Shaped Face?

Did you know that our face shape can help us determine the best hairstyle choice for us? Do you know what shape your face is? If not, then it’s time to figure it out!

Watch the video above to help you determine your face shape on your own. I also suggest speaking with your stylist to have him or her help you figure our what your face shape is. Once you determine this, your stylist should be able to match the best hairstyle (cut, length and overall style) to the shape of your face. This will help accentuate your most beautiful features, making you feel even more beautiful on the inside and out!

If you’re interested in learning more about which hairstyles fit best with each face shape, I have listed out and described the goals each hairstyle should have and what styles achieve that goal. Click here to see the samples for each face shape.

Camouflaging Thinning Hair

One tip to help you feel better quickly is learning how camouflaging your thinning hair can work for you. I know it can be difficult to hide a bare scalp – it’s still nice out, so we’re not wearing hats quite yet. (Although that time of year is quickly approaching!) My camouflaging trick will help you feel confident and gorgeous, just as you should!

There are a few barriers when trying to cover up thinning hair. Most of us are running around on a daily basis, and with it still being nice out, our bodies sweat or we could experience a few rain showers. These factors can make it difficult to hide hair loss or thinning. Some camouflage makeup can run-off in these situations, but unlike those other products, the physician-developed makeup I suggest using actually seals in place, allowing you to go about your day without any worry and help you continue looking beautiful on the inside and out!

Setting Up a Hair Loss Consultation

Understanding your personal hair loss is the start to finding a solution to it. When visiting the Jeffrey Paul Salon, my team will take you through a private consultation in order to better understand your hair loss. A consultation is one of the most important aspects of what my team does for our guests. During the consultation we go through a personal evaluation. Based on your different lifestyle, hair loss type, location of loss and amount of loss, we in turn develop a custom designed solution for you.

In the video above I will walk you through, with our guest Allison, two key components of a consultation. First, the “pull test,” which helps determine your rate of hair loss and face shape, which will help to build the most attractive frame around your face to finish the look.

Enhance Your Shine!

Do you ever feel like your hair is lacking shine or just dull looking? Friends, you are not alone! When speaking to women, lack of shine is one of the most common problems they have with their hair. So, here are two tips on how to get back that shiny hair you desire…and deserve!

1. Use the right kind of brush – A brush that is made with a combination of Mongolian Boar and bristles, will help your hair’s natural oils to be distributed equally and throughout each strand, making your hair silky smooth.

2. Know what type of hair you have – The texture of your hair is very important when selecting products that will not only repair hair, but also help to add shine.

In the video above, watch as I demonstrate how using the right brush and the right type of product, based on your hair’s texture, will help add back the shine your hair has been lacking.

Camouflaging Thinning Hair

Spring is the perfect time to learn how camouflaging your thinning hair can work for you. I understand that it can be difficult to hide a bare scalp, especially during the spring months when the weather turns nice and we’re no longer wearing heavy clothing or hats. My camouflaging trick will keep you feeling confident and gorgeous, just like a spring flower!

Now, there are a few barriers when “covering up.”  Most of us are running around on a daily basis, our bodies’ sweat, and with the spring season comes rain. These factors can make it difficult to hide hair loss or thinning. Some camouflage makeups run-off in these insistences, but unlike those other products, the physician-developed makeup I suggest using, actually seals in place allowing you to go about your day without any worry and help you continue looking beautiful on the inside and out!

Hair Extensions – Kristen’s Hair Loss Solution

“This is amazing! This is a new me. I think my hair is better than it was years ago.” – Kristen

Kristen used to not worry about hair loss. She had hair that was thick and full, and it always looked good. A few years ago, her hair began to fall out. Kristen noticed piles of hair each morning while getting ready. There were a few reasons she could think of that could be contributing factors to her hair’s condition.

Going from early stage to intermediate stage of female hair thinning, loss and breakage, she decided to seek help from the Jeffrey Paul Salon team.

How To Properly Clean Your Hair Replacement System

washinghair

It’s important to remember that a Hair System is an investment. By taking proper care of it, you will keep it looking natural and make it last longer. In order to do so, I highly recommend following a well-prescribed maintenance routine and one crucial part of that includes proper cleansing of your system.

Before I discuss the appropriate steps in that process, I want to bust a myth right now: washing a wig or hair replacement system less does not make it last longer.  In fact, cleaning and conditioning with the correct products and procedure will increase the life span since it lifts the oils and grime that cause hair loss and make for an unnatural look.

If you wear your hair system attached in extended wear fashion (removed by professional every 4-6 weeks) it is best to follow these video steps here.

If your hair system is worn daily (taken on and off each day), I suggest following twelve simple steps:

Do you Have a Heart Shaped Face?

Why You Might be Using the Wrong Blow Dryer

People have always asked, “Jeffrey, what should I look for when choosing a blow dryer.” This is a question that more of us should think about when we’re making a purchase, because not all dryers are equal! I want to share with you my favorite blow dryer, and what features it has.

The new CHI touch is my favorite blow dryer and one I would recommend to anyone because it has the following features:

  • Temperature setting
  • Volume of air setting
  • Changeable nosel
  • Ionization setting

These are all important settings because the more heat you use, the less beauty your hair has. Many blow dryers do not have a temperature setting, which in return, causes many of use to over heat our hair.

Bethany Overcame Trichotillomania

JP_BethanyBeforeAfter_10_2_13

“I feel like a completely different person. I can’t remember the last time I felt this confident. I feel like this is how I am supposed to look. They helped me look the way I am meant to look.”  -Bethany

A fabulous head of hair, a beautiful smile and confidence – that’s what you see when Bethany walks into a room. But it wasn’t always so. In fact, since she was five, Bethany has suffered from Trichotillomania – also known as hair pulling. Not just harmless hair pulling – hair pulling that results in hair loss. For Bethany that hair loss led to drastic action when she was in high school. She was so desperate to get rid of “her problem” that at one point she shaved her head; reasoning that if she didn’t have any hair, she couldn’t pull it out. Thankfully, Bethany was able to correct her situation with a hair replacement system.

PrC3JPjl3uxI-kTvf71eV384ZVUTyJG3GAHoeMlxPjMConsultation:

We helped prepare Bethany for her hair system by carefully reviewing each step of the process – outlining options for color and style and ensuring that lifestyle and preferences were a major part of the final outcome.

How You Can Determine Your Face Shape

Heart shapedNo two faces are the same, each and everyone of us has a unique beauty that should be framed with a gorgeous style! What style best brings out YOUR beauty? That depends on the shape of your face. Have you figured out what kind of shape your face is? Well, this might be a good idea to know and understand because it can help your appearance.

Take a head-and-shoulders photo of yourself while your hair is pulled back away from your face and hairline. Make sure the photo shows the full width of your shoulder-span to put your face shape and position into perspective. Then take a red permanent marker and draw neatly and directly along the outline of your face in the photo. Hold it next to the diagram of face shape samples to determine which face shape you have. Most of us are combinations, but this will serve as a general guide.

SquareThen examine (you can do this initially with your stylist if it makes you more comfortable) the following descriptions of which styles could be most flattering to your face shape and shoulder-span and most conducive to your lifestyle, and which colors might be most complementary to your skin tone. Use this as a basis to explore further styling options.

To give you a better idea of styles that will suit your face shape, check out my post Determine Your Face Shape.

Creating A Royal Diversion

When you are experiencing hair thinning or loss, one of your best tools can be your very own hair! Stylists all over the world are using specific styling and cutting techniques to hide (or accentuate!) all sorts of features. This skill set is so very important when you are looking for help with hair thinning or loss. This skill is the ability to determine what the perfect style is based on your facial structure. Let’s take a look at an example:

Screen Shot 2013-07-12 at 11.50.16 AMWhen your face is square…

How do you know if your face is square? Take a look at your jaw line and forehead. If you have a ‘square brow’ and your jaw line and your brow are the same width chances are that you have ‘square’ facial features.

7_25

Now that we know you have ‘square’ features we can begin to determine how to make your hair look full and thick without any replacement pieces! One of the best ways to create the allusion of a full head of hair for women with a square face is to use volume and structure, much like the picture of Michelle to the right. In order to give Michelle the allusion of thick hair we would want to soften her sharp jaw angle and minimize the shape of her brow. To do this we would frame her face with a soft fringe to make it look more oval, and cut the bulk of her hair to less than 4 inches with layers to add ‘fluff’ to give the illusion of volume. With a few peek-a-boo bangs and layering around the next Michelle’s look is softer, fun and gives her great lift to minimize the insecurity of her hair thinning!

It’s amazing what the right hairstyle and cut can do for your face, or the volume of your hair. And it’s not the same for each face! It’s so important to talk with your hairdresser about the shape of your face and what will work best for you!
