Are You Using Too Much Product?

When you’ve investing money into your hair, it’s important to invest the time to take care of it. One of the biggest beauty myths is that that using more product is better. This is in fact, false! And here’s why.

When washing your hair it is important to use one product, let it work its magic, and then completely rinse it off so that the next product you use can work properly.

I have created a full maintenance guide video to help walk you through the correct amount of products to use as well as the importance of rinsing the products out of your hair.

Achieving Vintage Curls

Recently vintage curls have been popping up at celebrity events, shows and in everyday life. The key to achieving the perfect vintage curls, that will hold, is using the right tools and products. Here are my tips to creating beautiful, vintage curls.

  1. For that gorgeous curl, you’ll want a versatile tool that heats up quickly and evenly. One tool that not only straightens hair but also creates luscious curls and waves is the GHD flatiron.
  2. Technique is important when using a heated tool, like the GHD flat iron in the video above. Always use a thermalizer to shield hair from thermal damage.
  3. After you’ve completed your vintage curls, spray a silicone polish to give curls a brilliant gloss and eliminate frizz.

I hope these tips have encouraged you to try creating your very own vintage curls utilizing beauty tools and products that help keep your hairdo all day long and that you can use to attempt some beautiful (and simple!) looks. For additional beauty tips please click here or follow me on:

Ask Jeffrey: Can Cold Weather Cause Hair Tangling?

Woman in Hat copy

I have been noticing a great deal of tangling in my nape area as well as the underside of my hair. It seems to have increased in the last few weeks. Is it possible that the cold weather is causing my hair to tangle?” Janelle V.

Janelle, thank you for your question! This is an excellent question, and one that I believe many women will benefit from.

The weather in the Cleveland area has definitely turned more frigid…Brrrrr! With that change of weather also comes a change in the clothes that we wear. During the winter months we wear heavier clothes to stay warm, but it can be these added layers that are causing the tangling and friction you are experiencing.

Sweaters, scarves, hats and jackets that are made out of wool or rougher materials are great to keep us warm; however they are also one of the leading contributors to tangles in hair. As you wear these items your hair is constantly rubbing against these materials and articles of clothing, especially in the collar area (nape area) and the underside of your hair. This constant rubbing causes friction and friction leads to tangling. This is very similar to what you can experience at night if you are not sleeping on a satin pillow case (Click Here to read more about friction caused at night).

Combine the heavier clothes and the natural dryness in the air during winter months and you have the perfect combination for dry, tangly hair.

The best way to combat against the friction, tangles and dry hair, is to

Budgeting for YOUR Hair Loss Solution

bigstock-Money-accumulation-concept-Mo-18977981

There are many factors that will influence your hair loss solution selection. Certain options will meet your budget. Others will meet the degree of quality you require, and yet others may best meet your time constraints. A part of my New Years resolution is to help you figure out how you can find a solution for your individual hair loss.

My advice starts by using the total approach mentality to evaluate the best investment you can make. Consider timeline, quality and cost, as well as any other factors of importance to you. Of course, the quality of your initial investment will help drive the success of the solution for your situation. I strongly encourage you to seek out a hair restoration and replacement professional that can expertly guide you.

Enhance Your Shine

Do you ever feel like your hair is just dull or really lacking shine? Don’t worry you are not alone. When speaking to women, hair with lack of shine is one of the most common problems women have with their hair. So here are two tips on how to get back that shiny hair you deserve.

1. Use the right kind of brush – A brush that is made with a combination of Mongolian Boar and bristles, will help your hair’s natural oils be able to be distributed equally and throughout each strand making your hair silky smooth.

2. Know what type of hair you have – The texture of your hair is very important when selecting products that will not only repair hair, but also help to add shine.

In the video above, watch as I demonstrate how using the right brush and the right type of product, based on your hair’s texture, will help add back the shine your hair has been lacking.

What to Take Out of Your Purse

If given the choice between healthy or unhealthy hair, you would always choose healthy; yet, you may not realize that some of the products that you regularly carry in your purse are damaging your hair.

Is there alcohol in your purse? Before you think, “no way!” you could be mistaken. Go ahead and take a look in your purse. What do you see? Women carry all sorts of items in their purses. You never know what the day may bring! Alcohol is found in perfume, styling aids and other hair products. Perfume contains a lot of alcohol, which is very drying and over time, will open the cuticle layer, increasing the chances of tangling.

Are You In The 90%?

“Jeffrey, my hair seems damaged and just does not look the way I want it to, do you think i have damaged hair?” -Ashley

This is a question I hear from my guests or people I meet, who find out that I speacialize in hair! Most people don’t realize how easy it can be to damage hair. Did you know that 9 out of every 10 customers who come in have some form of damaged hair and desperately need to restore their hair with protein? Hair could be damaged from a multitude of things – such as being curled, blow-dried, flat-ironed, color treated and more.

A protein treatment helps repair split ends, it increases the hair’s body, makes hair more manageable, increases hair’s shine, and protects hair against further damage.

With any product, it can be tricky to know the correct amount to use. Everyone’s hair is unique – from length to texture! To be sure you’re not overusing your protein treatment product (and costing yourself more money), use these tips!

4 Great Benefits to Having Two Hairpieces

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R24biYgdcnI&t

Hair is a fabric. Just like with your favorite outfit or that great pair of leather boots you wear… each fabric has a life expectancy based on the amount of use or overuse you put into it. The same is true for your hair replacement system. There’s no exact timeline as to when someone needs a new system or how long a hair system lasts. It varies on the way you wear and take care of your hair.

For the guest, at Jeffrey Paul Salon, who has selected the extended wear attachment option, the wear and tear that goes into wearing a system everyday is quite extensive. Think about it, even your most favorite outfit that you may wear 2 times a week (I won’t tell) gets taken on and off. The extended wear attachment method give the wearer the opportunity to live a more uncompromised life style because the hair system is attached. At the same time it can also cause a hair system to wear even faster.

Whether you have extensions, an integration system or a full hair replacement system, I highly suggest investing in two hairpieces. Why, you may ask? Here are a few of the great benefits having two hair systems, that you are able to alternate each month, can give you:

Story of Maxie – A Mother Finding A Solution

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc8Ugn1zkyo&t

When you become a mother, many things in your life change. Your protective instincts kick in, you become an expert in time management, your sleep pattern changes, and so much more. It’s inevitable.

What about hair loss? Once you have children, hair just doesn’t grow back the same. Jeffrey Paul Salon’s Office Coordinator, Maxie, experienced this first hand after giving birth to her three children. Prior to having kids, she never imagined that hair loss would be a problem for her.

She began to notice the changes in her hair’s texture, color and weight. She would find clumps of hair after taking a shower. These changes weren’t caused from age but as a result from having children. Like others, she initially attributed this hair loss to aging and shrugged it off as one of life’s natural occurrences.

Thankfully, Maxie was able to gain insight into her hair loss because of her career. Working at Jeffrey Paul Salon, allowed Maxie to discover the real reason behind her hair loss and the best possible hair replacement solution.

Through a consultation, contour analysis, and determining which attachment method best suited Maxie, she was able to choose a hair replacement system in which she could go about her everyday life without being self-conscious about her hair loss, how it would affect her and what others would think.

Now, thanks to finding the right hair loss solution, Maxie is able to focus on the most important job…being a mother.

Ask Jeffrey: Wet Brush

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SsOv5kxDOs

“Why should I ditch my regular comb or brush for a Wet Brush? Does it really make a difference?” – Alicia

This is a great question! Tangles are a women’s worst enemy when it comes to hair. Many of the women I talk to ask why they can’t get the tangles out of their hair or better yet how to get tangles out of their hair or hair system. One of the biggest culprits for not getting tangles out of hair is using the wrong types of brushes. Not only  will the wrong brush not get the tangles out, it could also create further damage by causing hair breakage. For a women who has thin hair or hair loss, any additional breakage to hair could be devastating. So the right brush makes all the difference.

BRUSHThe Wet Brush is my go-to detangling tool of choice. At first glance, The Wet Brush looks like an ordinary hair brush, but with just one use, you will notice a complete difference. It can be used on wet or dry hair. It quickly and painlessly detangles even the thickest, most stubborn hair. The Wet Brush’s Inteli-Flex bristle is designed to be ultra-thin and flexible, yet still have rapid recovery memory to instantly bounce back to its original form. In addition, the ball tip bristles provide a massaging action that stimulates circulation at the follicle and is a proven benefit for hair health.

So not only are you getting the tangles out, but you are also getting a scalp massage at the same time – and everyone I know loves a great scalp massage!

I tell my guests that it is most important to be using this type of brush on wet hair as hair can be very vulnerable when wet. Additionally, before going to bed each evening and/or once or twice throughout the day brushing through your hair, with the right brush, and a detangling spray will keep your hair looking good and feeling great!

How To Properly Clean Your Hair Replacement System

washinghair

It’s important to remember that a Hair System is an investment. By taking proper care of it, you will keep it looking natural and make it last longer. In order to do so, I highly recommend following a well-prescribed maintenance routine and one crucial part of that includes proper cleansing of your system.

Before I discuss the appropriate steps in that process, I want to bust a myth right now: washing a wig or hair replacement system less does not make it last longer.  In fact, cleaning and conditioning with the correct products and procedure will increase the life span since it lifts the oils and grime that cause hair loss and make for an unnatural look.

If you wear your hair system attached in extended wear fashion (removed by professional every 4-6 weeks) it is best to follow these video steps here.

If your hair system is worn daily (taken on and off each day), I suggest following twelve simple steps:

Linsey’s Full Makeover

“I didn’t recognize myself at first…I was so excited I jumped for joy! I can’t wait to go out and be myself.” – Linsey

Linsey was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease, an autoimmune disorder leading to hyperthyroidism, back in 1996. As we spent time with Linsey we found that her hair loss was caused by a combination of Graves’ Disease, Hashimoto’s Disease and the medications associated with them. For these types of diseases that cause damage emotionally, and physically it’s so important to build awareness so that women who may be suffering can seek and find help.

We prepared Linsey for her hair system by having a personalized discussion with her about her hair loss and determining which solution would be best for her specifically.

Linsey’s Story – Attachment Methods

For those of you following our Hair Loss Makeover Winner, Linsey, and her journey, you know she has gone through a private consultation to determine the best solution for her hair loss.

In order to further determine the best custom designed solution for Linsey, or anyone who comes in to Jeffrey Paul Salon, we must determine Linsey’s lifestyle, in order to determine which attachment method would be best suited for her needs.

In the video above I will take you through and explanation, as well as some facts, about the two types of attachment methods. These two attachment methods are:
